Your best bet is going to be to look for a true unlocked phone, one that was unlocked from the beginning. Use any of the links above to find unlocked versions of those phones.
However – you may also be able to save some money by buying a used, locked phone from Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or Sprint. Only buy a locked phone on these carriers, any other locked phone will not work!

From recent experience I have found that the Samsung i917 (factory unlocked) only partially works with straighttalk. I purchased the phone to use with Straighttalk and found that I was able to talk, text and wifi but not able to use my data plan or MMS. After spending hours searching on the internet, talking to Straighttalk, Samsung and AT&T, I still had the same results. No data or MMS. There is no place to input all of the information needed in the APN area of the phone, therefore, you have only part of your service available.

AT&T has a broader network, so consider that as your first option.
If you buy a iPhone from Straight Talk it will be on the Sprint network, which oftentimes is not as broad or fast as AT&T / T-Mobile, but it can vary based on your area.

Peggy, I know this is a bit confusing.
Originally Straight Talk was offering both AT&T and T-Mobile SIM cards.
At this present time, Summer 2013, they only have T-Mobile SIM Cards available. You need an AT&T SIM Card to bring your AT&T locked phone onto the Straight Talk network.
Therefore you have 3 options: Either wait for the AT&T SIM Cards to again be available through Straight Talk, go with a Net 10 AT&T SIM (Straight Talk’s sister company), or find another AT&T provider. Check out https://phonebillcut.com/ to compare your options.

If the phones were previously AT&T phones, you can’t currently get a SIM Card from Straight Talk as of July 2013. However, you can still find Net 10 SIM Card Packs that have AT&T SIM Cards included. Net 10 is a sister company of Straight Talk, owned by Tracfone, just as Straight Talk is.
You will only be able to use the T-Mobile SIM packs if your phones are unlocked phones or locked to T-mobile.

Right now, as of Summer 2013, the AT&T SIM cards are “temporarily not available” from Straight Talk. However, they are available through their sister company, Net 10, who offers different, but similar plans (they have a $45/month (if you auto-pay) unlimited talk/text & 1.5GB of data plan, so check them out.

You could bring these phones to Straight Talk using the Straight Talk Bring your own Verizon CDMA phone program; However these phones are both 4G phones and that is not supported on the Straight Talk Plan.
Run your phone through their check tool and let us know if they accept your phone’s ESN and offer you the activation pack to bring your phone onto the network (instructions on the link above)
I have a T-mobile Samsung Blaze. I have the unlock code for the phone, but have not unlocked it. I am not happy with T-mobile coverage, and will be out of contract in 3 weeks. Will I be able to access the ATT network if I move my phone to Straight Talk? Thank you.
BTW…when I search for available networks on my phone now, it brings up both T-mobile and ATT. Does that mean I could access either network?
Mick, If you unlock the phone you can get the Net 10 SIM Card Pack and run the phone on the AT&T network, which has much broader coverage than the T-Mobile network in most areas.

I am guessing the Samsung galaxy exhilerate is locked to AT&T. Therefore, yes you can run it on Straight Talk with an AT&T SIM or Net 10 with an AT&T SIM.
Your phone does not have to be unlocked if you get an AT&T SIM Card (assuming it is currently locked to AT&T)
